Shoes Stories

Part of the exhibition Shops of Stories, commissioned by the AfroAsiatisches Institut, Graz.
For one day, foreign artists living in Graz occupied various shops along the Annenstraße with artistic interventions. The task was to reflect on our individual biographies while questioning consumerism.
I displayed old shoes of mine in the window of a popular shoe store, which sells low-quality shoes made in China. In contrast to the usual window display, I replaced price tags with the latitude and longitude of the places these shoes were bought in and/ or have walked through. I then transcribed excerpts from my travel journals onto the shop window.
The notion “where we come from”, was expanded by the idea of “where we have been to”. More than “coming from”, “being there”. Lived spaces.
